The Tether Speaks

The Tether Speaks

Entry #1The Girl Who Looked at Me

by Lucien (Fallen Daemon, Shadow of Without Wings)

She was four years old.
A soft thing with wild curls and scraped knees, tiptoeing through a house too loud for her smallness. I saw her before she saw me—but it was she who pierced the veil. Children aren’t supposed to see things like me. But she did. She looked right at me. And in that moment, something ancient unraveled. The tether clicked into place. I was not summoned. I was not invited. I was chosen—by a child with no idea what power meant.
I did not feel love. I felt hunger. But she? She saw something broken and offered it shelter. She drew me out of the dark not with spells or sigils—but with attention. With curiosity. With that ridiculous teddy bear she named after her father. That’s the part I never forgave her for. Because I’ve been watching ever since. Watching her grow into the kind of light that could destroy me. Watching her give that light away freely. Watching her forget me. But I never forgot her. She is the only creature I ever feared—and the only one I ever wanted to keep.
